I have also made alternative choices this time around in times of craving such as apple slices dipped in a honey/Greek yogurt/peanut butter mixture instead of a slice of cake when wanting something sweet, home fried foods rather than deli counter and such. Today I was feeling like pastries so instead of going out and buying a whole box of Pop Tarts that I'd finish off myself since Chris doesn't eat them, I quickly whipped up some Pop Tart inspired pastries.
Ingredients:
pre-made pie crust
preferred choice of jam/jelly
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 T milk
1/8 t vanilla extract
sprinkles (optional)
Directions: Slightly roll out pie crust and then cut in desired shape (either traditional Pop Tart or use a biscuit cutter) in multiples of two. Continue to collect and roll out dough remains until all dough is used (or most of).
Place one dough cut out on a cookie sheet, dab and spread some jam in the center of cut out avoiding the edges. Place other dough cut out on top and with a fork seal the edges.
Bake at 450' for 8-10 minutes.
Once cooled, in a small bowl whisk together powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Glaze top of cooled pastries and then add sprinkles. Store in an airtight seal container.

These look amazing! Our pregnancies are like exactly the same. This time I am trying to eat better and last time I just ate whatever I wanted (and a lot of it, too!). I have definitely been craving poptarts, so now I can make my own! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI craved pop tarts with my last pregnancy, I would limit myself to one a day ;) These look like an amazing alternative!
