1 Hour 4th of July Bunting Tutorial

I've never been much for decorating or celebrating the 4th of July even though I have a running 'Patriotic' board on Pinterest- check it out! I did used to enjoy fireworks... Now I hold my breath praying they don't wake the baby.

Do you go all out for Independence Day? It's not that I'm not patriotic, I feel very lucky to be an American and grateful for all the privileges that comes with that but I just don't really do much for any holiday besides Christmas.

We live in a big Navy town though and between that and needing an excuse for a quick craft to boost my mood I thought I'd have a go at making something festive. It also helped that my mom gave me an entire bolt of blue gingham fabric (that she was given by a neighbor) I need to figure out how to use up!

Materials:
scrap blue and red material
burlap
cardboard to make stencil
bias tape
thread for sewing machine or hand sewing

Directions: First make a stencil out of cardboard for tracing out the burlap pennants (like I've mentioned time and time again one day I'll have a scanner and be able to upload templates), mine measures 5.75" wide and 7" tall. Next I found a star clipart, printed, cut it out, and then traced on cardboard to make the fabric star cutouts- mine measured 4" wide.

Trace and cut out seven burlap pennants, four blue stars and three red stars.

To seal the burlap edges, zig-zag stitch around the entire pennant.

Pin stars to the center of each pennant and then single stitch around the star.

Pin pennants 1" apart from each other on bias tape starting 20" in from the end and cutting bias tap 20" from the last pennant. Zig-zag stitch bias tap  so that it sandwiches the pennants and you're done!
