A Japanese Riddle

I can now sit in the priority seating area on the trains because of two reasons. Which ones?

That's right! We're currently 9 weeks pregnant- due the end of August or beginning of September. We found out 7 weeks ago and managed to squeeze in an appointment before moving over here to Japan. My doctor initially said I didn't need to set up any appointments in Japan (I was going to be 19 weeks when we returned home) but we have since been extended so now I'm going to have to set up a couple.

This pregnancy has been very similar to my first but milder in experience. So far the fishy smells of Japan haven't bothered me- smell in general hasn't been a problem but food aversions have been strong.

My morning sickness was a little difficult when we first arrived due to jet lag- rather than experience it 9am-2pm it was 1am- 6am, making it super hard to sleep. Most days are fine and I'm able to get out with Gabriel as well as work out but other days I wake up and feel like I haven't slept all night and lack a lot of motivation to get outside until late in the day.

It's strange being pregnant again because the last memories I have of pregnancy are filled with kicks, punches, hiccups, while now I don't feel a baby, just all the crazy symptoms the baby is causing.

Next week we'll be half way there and gaining excitement every moment of this journey. We've already decided that we aren't going to learn the gender before birth which means we're also not discussing names with people. No hard feelings, we just learned from the first pregnancy that it's a lot easier to criticize a name before a baby is born than after.

Here's to our every expanding and changing adventure called life!

  1. CONGRATULATIONS to you!!! We did not find out with our Little Boy and LOVED IT! I blogged about it here: http://seriouslykateblog.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-case-for-baby-surprise-five-things.html We didn't have a name picked out either, boy or girl. We didn't settle on one until shortly before we left the hospital!! How fun. :) Yay yay for you all! Hope you start feeling better too!
    Happy Weekend!

  3. What type of fabric did you use? I like the way the light comes through the fabric. From the outside, what color do the curtains appear to be?
New to sewing but thinking about making kitchen curtains like this! Thanks :)

  6. I'm sooooo excited for you guys and to have babies so close!! I really toyed with the idea of not finding out but just can't do it! Haha maybe next baby :) I totally get you on the name bit, even though we're finding out I highly doubt we'll spread the name far and wide until baby actually gets here.

  11. We didn't share Ben's name with anyone until he was born...it drove people nuts! Ha! I kind of loved that it was a special thing between my husband and I.

  13. Normal weight cotton fabric? Forgive me, I'm not good with the details of sewing. The back is a white color, you can see in the 5th and 6th photo. :) I later replaced the curtains with one panel about 1 foot wide that covered the entire top of the window so you can't see the top of the blinds.

  21. I think being in Japan for more than half of the pregnancy makes that decision the easiest. :) We've already talked names with a couple people (my SIL of course) but yes, not far and wide.

  22. Not ANYONE?! Good for you guys! I try to be intentional with not asking pregnant women about names- if they want to share they will come out with it on their own. :)

  26. Seriously. It's funny how every time we've been here it has been different- 1st trip we were newly weds, 2nd trip we had an infant, 3rd trip I'm pregnant!

  27. No one! Justin and I were the only ones who knew...and he didn't have a name until 32ish weeks. Hoping next time around we can decide a bit more quickly! Ha! I'm excited to hear how the experience goes of not finding out the sex. I don't want to know next time around but Justin does...not sure how that will work out! Ha!
