15 Month Old!

Gabriel's 15th month has been the busiest he has had in awhile. This month he decided he'd start walking- as in he woke up one morning and just began walking. The same goes for sign language and new words. Baby and child development just amazes me- how they can progress leaps and bounds in just a matter of a month (week, day) leaves me in awe.

When the kitchen timer goes off he speeds to the oven and points.
When he finds a piece of garbage on the floor he walks it to the trash under the sink.
Come bed or nap time he points or lunges for his crib and squeals with joy when set inside.
He signs for different needs like food, milk, bed and bathroom.
Animal sounds have extended past dog.
A cheerful 'hi' is provided to those who greet him.
'Uh-oh' acts are distinguished by him (but sometimes he'll proceed anyways).
Drawers are always to be closed and Kleenex to be pushed down in the box (he enforces this).
No book goes unread.

This month was also Gabriel's first spat of sickness since he was 6 months old. He slept a lot one day and woke up the next morning with a 103.5' temp! We tamed it with some medication but as the day progressed he became more and more irritable and cuddly so we visited the doctor and learned he had an ear infection. Later that evening his temp went up past 104'f, it was so heartbreak to look at him- all he wanted to do was be held and just stared off into the distance, his eyes were so empty. He even nursed to sleep on several occasions, which he hasn't done for who knows how long! In addition to cuddling with us he had to have two of his stuffed animals in the mix as well.

He remains to be a sharing little fellow, offering up even his most prized possessions and food to anyone around. Tantrums hardly exist and we attribute this to teaching him sign language. When taking this little guy out and about his eyes are still commented on at least once or twice by strangers and at the grocery store we're always asked, "which aisle can I get me one of those?"

We've started wearing 24mo clothes- he comes in at 24lbs and 32.5 inches tall and we both still love the Ergo and usually choose it over seating him in the shopping cart.

Just six more weeks left in America until Japan adventures begin again and he'll even out his time lived in America and time lived in Japan once more.

  1. My Munchkin loves to pull the tissues OUT of the box:) She also love to wipe her nose, even if she doesn't need too. It is amazing how much and how quickly they learn at this age! They seem to get so big so fast.

  6. It's been such a joy following your blogs and watching him grow up. I wish my daughter had done this with Isabella. And yes - his eyes are amazing! So pure and so full of life and feeling. He is a wonderful little joy and I can just imagine he is only going to grow more and more wonderful as he ages. Sons are such a joy and always always love you forever! Sad you are going back to Japan but happy for your adventures to follow! Is this going to be a way of life for you? Or can you say? Take care!

  7. What a looker. I love the expression in the last picture. Maybe he just realized that he's short a sock :)

My kids have spent more than one year in Mexico and they're not even 4 yet. Hoping to move there permanently in a few years. I'd love to hear more about your Japan adventure!
