If you're from the Pacific Northwest you have heard of Cannon Beach. If you aren't from the PNW then you have probably heard of The Goonies. If you haven't heard of either, now you have. For the past Labor Day weekend we vacationed in Cannon Beach. This was the second time I've been a part of Chris' family Labor Day vacation- the first time being two years ago sans baby. There were a lot of great moments but I was unfortunately sort of a stress case for most of the trip over Gabriel's sleeping arrangement. Ironically (and frustratingly) camping was more relaxing than staying in a grand condo, boo. Praise God that Gabriel actually slept fine for naps and bedtime -so I was probably stressing about nothing- but staying on the main floor of the condo (where everyone congregated) with only a wall between Gabriel and a room full of 10 people, I anxiously held my breath for every morning nap. I tried to channel this anxiety through running and napping so that I could enjoy the rest of the day- come noon I transformed into a normal person again.
When I wasn't being that crazy mom I was playing on the beach, enjoying board games, and laughing with family. Gabriel LOVE LOVE LOOOOVED the sand, so much so that he would shove his face in it which never worked out for him. Gabriel was also very insistent about being helped with walking along the beach- so sweet. Did I mention that the weather was absolutely GORGEOUS! No one packed swimsuits (besides the kids) because last time we came it was so cold. On the last night the guys and I decided to go swimming anyways. It felt great to do something impulsive and adventurous again- I feel like I've gotten away from that since having Gabriel.

Hello Newlywed Life Blog
I love that post about being an educated, stay at home mom! Good find! An education is never wasted!
ReplyDeleteSo many glorious photos of you and your little guy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm always getting sweet photos of Chris and Gabriel so Chris wanted to be intentional of actually getting photos of G and I together. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks friend! Their is beauty in the East Coast! I've never been but so want to go some day! I told my husband today that when we visit DC (some day, maybe) I wanted to stop in and see you. :)
ReplyDeleteYikes! Just committed one of my biggest pet peeves! There*
ReplyDeleteI never heard of Cannon Beach before, but I've certainly seen the Goonies. You have beautiful pictures, and it looks like you had a wonderful time. My son is five now, but I remember stressing about him not getting in his mid-afternoon nap or getting off his sleep schedule in general. I'm happy to say that traveling w/ little ones does get easier. Happy end of summer/almost autumn! I love the fall too!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Cannon Beach... Not surprising, Being an Aussie. But I have heard of (and LOVE) The Goonies (Sloth Love Chunk)
ReplyDeleteI am just about to go on holidays with my family and our newborn baby girl and I too am stressing about naps. Luckily, unlike my son, she loves sleeping in her pram and the baby carrier so hopefully she won't be as grumbly as she can be.
That beach does look amazing. Those rock formations don't look real. Gorgeous photos!

Great shots of you guys! So happy the sleeping worked out. And holy cow, that movie was one of my faves growing up, so jealous you go to be on the beach where they filmed it!!!

Loved that blog post. My husband says I wasted my time and our money getting my college degree since I don't use it, but like she said, for what it means to ME it wasn't a waste. When I'm in a group of adults who are talking about what degrees they all have, I love to be able to chime in. And at the same time, being a mom is 10x harder than any job I've ever had and takes much more brain power than obtaining a degree. Being a mom has been the hardest thing I've ever done.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are GORGEOUS! I can totally identify with the whole stressing over the napping and bedtime arrangements... this was the first year, I let our Little Man stay up late and nap a little later. That's completely out of my character but it turned out okay. :) I was glad that I let go a little. I think it helped though that it was only our family and not a big group like it has been the last couple of years.
ReplyDeleteCannon Beach looks amazing! Maybe someday... :)
Lena these pictures are amazing. What an absolutely stunning beach!!! Looks like you had a fantastic time :) Thanks for linking up again xx
ReplyDeleteMy favorite beach is in Australia- Manley Beach. :) My brother and sister in law who are pictured with their sun above lived there for I think 9 months and we got to visit! Let me know how it goes! Why do we stress ourselves out so much?!
ReplyDeleteMe too, though I wish I was more happy in the moment. Shucks! We love this beach- I bet it will continue to be a family tradition for years to come. It's just 3.5-4 hours south of us.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's pretty hard to take a bad photo on that beach. I hope I start to let go a little more as he gets older.
ReplyDeleteWe did manage to have quite a bit of fun- and eat quite a bit of salt water taffy. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE your hop! I think it is so great because it is so good for mamas and their families to get outside and be active! You're encouraging something great!
ReplyDeletegorgeous photos, and I definitely recognize it from the Goonies! I know exactly what you mean about the group-related sleeping anxiety, that can be the hardest thing about overnight family get togethers for me. Glad you still managed to have a blast:)
ReplyDeleteOh thanks so much Lena!! I really appreciate your encouragement! It means so much to me!
