Baby's 1st Birthday

One of the earliest nicknames I gave Gabriel was honey bear, probably because he was always so sweet. When I started thinking about his first birthday a couple "themes" came to mind but one stood out above them all. Chris and I had talked about doing something like Star Wars and though cool, we thought that that would be something fun to save for when Gabriel is older (he will like Star Wars, that's not the issue) so he can remember it. So, we were looking for a theme that fit him/us and was appropriate for my one year old honey bear... Winnie the Pooh! Get it? I thought it was perfect.

I've always wanted to throw a 'fancy-smancy' party where everything flows and fits together so nicely but they not only take a lot of work but can be expensive too if not properly planned and organized.

I may or may not have started planning Gabriel's birthday back in February or March- thank you Pinterest Secret Boards! It was fun being about to pick up items and fabrics while in Japan to add to his special day! I wanted it to be more focused on the honey bear than Winnie the Pooh and Friends and I wanted it inspired more by vintage Winnie the Pooh than modern.

At the end of the day I wouldn't exactly call it a Winnie the Pooh party, I mean I forgot to even get out the Winnie the Pooh stuffed bear I bought Gabriel- it's still in my closet! But if you know your Winnie the Pooh and especially the book Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree I think you would have caught on to the gist of things.

The party was absolutely splendid! I was so thankful for my family who showed up early and helped prep the food! Life savers! This was the biggest party we have had in our home to date (40+ counting out adults, children, and babies) and for that party to be a celebration of our son's first year of life made us feel so loved and blessed.

Bunting is for sale in my Etsy shop.

Gabriel did so good on his big day with only one nap ! Silly me planned to have the party start right at afternoon nap time! Though tired he remained in good spirits. We were all pulling for him to fall asleep on the cake and it looked like it was going to happen there for a moment but he just continued to play in the cake while dazing off into the distance. He never dove into it, I tried to encourage it by sticking a foot in but it was all pretty anticlimactic. He had a quick bath before heading back out to the party and then crashed two hours before bedtime with us not to far behind him.

  17. Thanks, Megan! I was a little stressed about the cake because I didn't do a trial run at it but instead put it together about an hour before the party! It leaned a little in one direction (shh, don't tell) but I just orientated it differently and that seemed to work!
