Turkey Gyros with Tzatziki Sauce

I got my first exposure to Greek flavors back in 2007 on a trip to eastern Europe. I love how light but powerful the flavors can be, perfect for warmer days!

This meal was a great addition to our regular flavors- really shook it up in a good way! Christopher couldn't help himself from going back for pita after pita! The best part is that this dinner is rather quick to put together and prepare.

Tazatziki Sauce Ingredients:
16oz plain Greek yogurt
1 cucumber peeled/seeded/grated and patted dry
2 garlic cloves minced (or 3t minced garlic)
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 garlic salt
1/4 pepper

Gyro Ingredients:

1lb ground turkey
1 Tablespoon olive oil
3 garlic cloves minced (or 3t minced garlic)
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 red onion diced
1 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon lemon pepper
10 pitas
Feta cheese

Directions: Make sauce first. Mix all sauce ingredients together then place in the refrigerator to chill while you make the Gyros.

In a frying pan heat up oil. Cook ground turkey, onion and garlic until meat is no longer pink. Add lemon juice and simmer until no longer watery, about 5-10 minutes. Mix in seasonings and remove from heat.

To assemble pitas smear a nice layer of sauce on both sides of the inside of the pita. Spoon in some of the turkey mixture, sprinkle with feta, add a dab of more sauce and repeat until pita is full.

I hope you enjoy this dinner as much as we have! I'd love to know if you tried the recipe and what additions or changes you made!
