Molasses Crinkles

***WARNING, these are incredibly addicting!

Remember that sweet tooth I mentioned on my Frosted Banana Bars post? Well that sweet tooth has gotten even more out of control! Sweets have felt as essential as air in my life! I did some digging and found that it is a huge craving found in woman who are nursing. I haven't seen any research about why that is, just numerous chat boards and articles. My sister-in-law is a nutritionist and she said she found an article about nursing lowering a mama's blood sugar.

These cookies got the best of me. It has been years since I have made them and boy OH BOY did I forget how good they are! Since devouring these cookies in just a few days I am now on a 10 day sweets fast to try and kick this out-of-control craving! Intentionally doing this fast with Halloween in the middle of it.

  • 3/4 cup butter flavored shortening (or coconut oil)
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 Tablespoons Molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoons cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
Directions: Cream together shortening and sugar. Mix in egg and molasses. Add half of the flour and rest of dry ingredients, mix well. Add rest of flour and mix well again.

Roll dough into balls 1.5"wide, dip balls into sugar and place on an ungreased cookie sheet 2" apart.

Bake at 350' for 12 minutes.
