Fabric Bunting Tutorial

The other week I mentioned that I was working on a fall bunting banner in anticipation for fall! Well here it is!

I loved this project! With being a new mom with very scattered crafting time, this was the perfect project for me since it was easy to stop and pick up again throughout the project.

First I made a template out of cardboard. When making the template I decided what dimensions I wanted the final flag to be and then added on a quarter of an inch for seem allowance. My template is 5 1/2" x 6 1/2".

Once the template is made, trace an even number of flags onto pre-washed fabric and cut out. Pin pennants with right sides touching and stitch both sides of flags with a quarter inch seem. Turn pennants right side out (I used the tip of a mechanical pencil without lead to push the point out) and press with iron.

Once all flags are pressed, cut off the tips on the top to make the top of the flag level.

Place into the fold of the bias tap and pin down. Stitch the bias tape closed using the side of the sewing machine foot as a guide.

Once bias tape is stitched from end to end, banner is finished!

Have fun!
