38 Weeks

SUPER tired. I've tried taking the time to nap, go to bed early, sleep in late however it just doesn't seem to work because I'm too uncomfortable. My mom suggested sleeping in a reclined position in the living room but I find our bedroom more peaceful to rest in than our living room, plus our bedroom is air conditioned.

Your baby's the size of a pumpkin!
Baby is about 18.9 to 20.9 inches long and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds. Her head is now about the same circumference as her abdomen.

your baby at 38 weeks
  • She may have about an inch or so of hair already.
  • She's slowly shedding that white goo on her skin (called vernix caseosa) but you might see some of it at birth.

I found out at my last doctor's appointment that I tested positive for Group B Streptococcus. Group B Strep (GBS) is a bacteria that many people harbor, and about 1 in 4 pregnant woman test positive for at full term. There is typically no harm done to an adult by this bacteria but can be passed to the infant during birth causing stillbirth and serious infection. Now, that sounds pretty serious but an IV of antibiotics when I get to the hospital when in labor will reduce the chances of giving birth to a baby affected by GBS from 3/1000 to .35/1000.

The nursery is "finished!" Chris built and installed the closet unit this weekend and I just have a touch more of decorating to do, ie hanging some pictures/frames. The car seat is installed and the hospital bag is as packed as it can be for now. My belly button has transitioned from being an inny (pre-pregnancy), to outy and now it doesn't really seem to exist. Still no stretch marks and the varicose seem to have simmered down. I'm still working hard in my river classes at the local YMCA and doing yard work but making sure I take the time to just rest and read.
