DIY Ruffled {No Sew} Tree Skirt

If you've been on Pinterest there is no way you could have possibly avoided this tree skirt. I've seen many different versions and though I think it's awesome crafters have ventured out to make it their own with a bold (sometimes funky) take, I'm a sucker for simplicity and elegance.

4'x5' painters drop cloth
5 yards of fabric
glue gun and glue sticks

{1} Cut painters cloth into a square {2} Square {3} Fold painters cloth in half {4} Fold painters cloth into quarters

Fold painters cloth diagonally in half.

Create an arch using one of the folded points as the center of the circle. I had a 23" radius. make a small arch at the center point to create the hole for the trunk.

I might has cut it the wrong way, heck two pieces, however it was an easy fix with hot glue.

Cut stripes of fabric 2"-3" wide. This however is a matter of preference. I did several of the bottom rounds 3", then 2.5", and finished with 2" stripes. On my next one I'll probably do 4", 3.5" 3", 2.5", and 2" rounds.

To clean up the inside circle where the tree stump goes I folded it underneath and hot glued it down (this is a picture of the backside of the skirt).

This tree skirt was a couple weeks in the making. One blogger said it took her 5 hours night to finish. If I could put a number on it, I'd say more like 10 for me. Either way we are both thoroughly pleased! Lovely addition to our Christmas.

  1. Beautiful! And it really does compliment your tree! I'm not so sure my Robot Santa really...umm..."compliments" mine, but sure made us laugh!

I love reading your comments so please don't be shy! I'll usually even invite myself over after you've dropped a note to see what you're up to!
